The Evolution of Money? Canadian Mint Announces Plans for Digital Currency

The Royal Canadian Mint has announced that it is developing a digital alternative to cold, hard cash. They’re calling it called “MintChip.” “Still in the research and development phase, MintChip will ultimately let people pay each other directly using smartphones, USB sticks, computers, tablets and clouds,” The Star reports. “The digital currency will be anonymous and good for small transactions — just like cash,” the report adds.
